Kia ora Steve, really useful information. May I please ask whether SpeedX is your preferred lube for daily use, or reserved for multi-day epics? Ngā mihi.
Kia Ora Aaron. I use Speed X lube all the time. Especially good for multi day epics as it comes in a perfect size bottle
Sweet, thanks Steve, will give it a nudge myself (always looking for a better lube).
Hi Steve, great info. What seat do you use? Still not in love w mine after the recent TA.
Cheers
Rick
Hi Rick . My saddle is a Prologo Scratch 2 Space from their endurance range. Being using for a few years now, works for me but saddles can be a personal thing. Cheers
Hi Steve. What size is the Expedition seat pack?
Hi David . My Expedition Seat pack is 14l. Thanks
Hi Steve,
I see you have a Garmin. What did you use for navigation? Did the Garmin link to a map source like Komoot? Did you have the Kennets book or GPX files?
Hi Rob, Yes i used a Garmin Etrex 35t, i just had the NZ maps on there , then uploaded the GPX Files , using this as my main navigation. I had the GPX Files also on GAIA app on my phone as backup. I did have the KENNETT Bros guide downloaded on my phone for reference. I also had basic cue sheets that i printed and laminated with distances between towns etc and all the 30 photo control points. Cheers
Thanks for that Steve. I actually saw you on Day 1 of the TA. I was cycling up the beach about 40km north of Ahipara when you guys zoomed by.
oh yes , i do remember that . hope you had a good ride
Hi Steve, great to stumble upon when researching for the 2022 TA, congrats looks like your conquered some impressive rides.
Just wondering if you used your tent much at all on the TA and if so what you did for a tent pole for the hexamid?
Cheers
Mike
Hi Mike. Thank you . I think i only used my tent 5 times in this years TA , i had a couple of nights where i just rolled out my mat under a verandah and in backpackers other nights. I have a carbon centre pole , also from Z Packs .
Cheers
Hi Steve, Thanks for sharing the gear list. What’s it all weigh including bags, excluding water and food? cheers John
Hi John Thanks for reading.I really dont know as i never weigh the overall load. Cheers
Hi Steve, thanks for the info. What shoes do you wear and why (other than colour co-ordination)?
Cheers.
Hi Cliff, thanks for reading. For the last Tour Aotearoa i wore Shimano Xc5, For the Tour Divide 2019 i used GIRO Empire.I preferred the Shimano Xc5 as they are wider, really comfy and good for Hike a bike. Shimano also have the RX800 Gravel shoes that i might try at some stage.
Cheers
