I will pretty much have everything I require on my bike as I travel. Food and water I pick up on the way.

There is a common saying in the Bikepacking World

“That you pack your Fears”

For example, it means, that if you fear getting cold, you will pack base layers, warmers, jackets etc in abundance…

This of course can be tricky as you are attempting to be as minimalist as possible, to travel as light as possible and also because of limited space in your bag system.

As I have done a few of these long Ultra-distance Cycling Events, I have a pretty good idea of what I need. Although different countries and different terrains require specific gear. For Tour Divide 2019, I’m going pretty light with camping gear including Zpacks Hexamid tent, Zpacks Sleeping Bag, Thermarest Sleeping Mat and Sea to Summit Pillow.

I have;

  • Goretex waterproof jacket and shorts.
  • GroundEffect Limousines shorts and Buff.
  • Vibrant Living custom-made Tineli jersey.
  • Sportful jacket.
  • Endura Gillet.
  • Sportful Arm and leg warmers.
  • Fi’zi:k winter overshoes.
  • Vigilante Baselayer.
  • Outdoor Research insulated jacket.
  • Bellwether insulated gloves with Montane waterproof Mitts.
  • Giro Empire cycling shoes.

I use a;

  • Garmin Etrex35 touchscreen for navigation.
  • K-lite Bikepacker Pro front light.
  • Also running with K-lite USB charger and a Bar Switch that runs from my SON Dynamo hub.
